Untitled 1, Only They Remain Series, Mexico, 2024. WIP.

This photographic project captures the intimacy and everyday life of a family of women in Acambay, Mexico. Chona, Josefina, and Fernanda form a resilient unit, defying the circumstances of abandonment and social inequality that surround them. Through their work as caretakers of a vast and opulent Mexican Hacienda, these women have built a humble home on the margins of grandeur, symbolizing both economic dependence and their own independence and endurance.

The images juxtapose the monumental emptiness of the uninhabited estate with the domestic moments shared by these three generations. They tell a story of labor and sacrifice, which has allowed Fernanda, the youngest, to become the first in her family to access formal education and achieve academic success. Beyond the physical space, the narrative explores tensions between belonging and exclusion, as well as the unbreakable bond between these women who, in the absence of the men who left them, have only each other.
